Out With The Old, And In With The New.

So your skeleton's in the closet, placed there today,
With all of the good things you could never say.
Out with the old, and in with the new,
There's a place in my closet waiting for you.

Above is a set of lyrics from one of my dearest songs 'Skeleton in the Closet'. When I wrote the song, the line 'out with the old and in with the new' was meant to be mocking those who are flighty and quick to abandon things without a second thought. I wanted to express the importance of holding onto things and working at them instead of running away. I wrote that song 3 years ago, and more and more I see the 'fast track mentality' gripping us. People want quick fixes. They want everything here and now and they are not prepared to wait and see what happens if they invest.

But that line was also about closure. It was about taking the anguish and dragging from yourself like it is a separate entity. 'There's a place in my closet waiting for you'. Don't throw away, lock away. Come to terms with things that happen to you by yourself. No one can make you get over things, no one can make you feel well. It is about you drawing the poison, but keeping it somewhere personal to reflect upon.

The film 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' discusses this. Imagine if those you met didn't exist to you anymore? Even heartache is better than nothingness. Just clinging onto that last memory means the world to us deep down, even as everything crumbles around us.

I don't think this new year is about binning, rejecting or emptying yourself from whatever held you back last year. We don't want to erase our journey. Don't reject the memories of people you loved who hurt you, or the people you lost along the way. Closure is keeping them somewhere safe, where only you are responsible for them. We have one life, and I don't who I would be without all the little hairline fractures in my heart.

I did amazing things last year and I should feel proud, but there were sad things too. I'm excited to take all the knowledge I gained and invest it in my next endeavours. I have an interview in two weeks for a masters course, which I'm so thrilled about. The next stage of my music and art education will hopefully be here soon.

This month is the beginning of Pippa Says and my 'Strong is the New Sexy' campaign, and though there is just so much to do, it will be fun and inspiring. We will be introducing the campaign shortly, so keep and eye out for it all!

Looking back at pictures of my performances, I feel so relieved that I held onto my pole dancing and invested in a new pole. I had every chance to give up when I left Brighton and I didn't, I did everything I could to keep my dreams going. There is still so much to learn.

Now I have a new laptop, I finally have the means to self release my music, so it's full speed ahead with recording my album. And with the potential of a move back to Brighton, I can finish all the little projects right where they left off.

Now to get back to planning. Happy new year to everyone, I hope 2015 is prosperous and thrilling!
